Asian Folklore Archive
Established in 2007, the UBC Asian Folklore Archives are the first on-line resource in Canada for Asian folklore studies. Designed to be an expanding, student-driven, multimedia database, the Archives offer a unique and dynamic window into fascinating world of popular traditions in today’s complex and rapidly changing Asian and diasporic Asian cultures.
All materials have been collected by UBC students from living consultants from Asian and Asian diasporic communities, and the anonymity of the consultants and collectors has been retained. Students have been particularly encouraged to record their materials using media technology—video, audio, digital images—and in their original languages.
The archives are intended for instructional and research purposes at the University of British Columbia, and general access to the archives is limited at this time to students, faculty, and staff at UBC; guest access is subject to prior administrator approval and requires the acceptance of privacy and intellectual property agreements.
